Jan Pool

Jan Pool has been working as a television writer, director and producer for the last fifteen years. He has worked on diverse productions, documentaries and music programmes for the following television stations: KRO, NCRV, RTL4, SBS6, RKK, EO, IKON and AVRO.

A little personal history...

Jan Pool (1966) was born in Den Ham, a tiny village tucked up between quaint farmhouses and expansive farmlands in north-eastern Holland. During high school Jan was too busy running the school paper and playing in local bands to bother with academics. He also wrote for a number of regional newspapers, thinking he would make journalism his career. However, when he got the chance to work on audiovisual productions for a national youth organisation, he changed his course. He ended up working for a small production company in Hilversum, beginning as a production assistant and ending up as a director/producer.

JAN POOL TV/AV PRODUCTIONS

Almost 12 years ago Jan decided to trade in his production employee existence for that of an independent director, producer and writer. He has since then worked on many different types of television productions, from documentaries to talk shows. All these different programmes and assignments have added up to lot of experience and fun in his work.

True or false

Creating television programmes is a unique endeavour: as soon as the lamps are adjusted and the cameras are rolling, the director/producer is creating his own reality. What the viewer sees and does not see is the choice constantly being deliberated and made while filming and all over again in post-production. In television, the truth being told is always relative, and yet not everything is a lie either.

And that is what makes television so interesting.
